Flash vs. Four Blinks: Understanding the Differences
Attribution from The Four Blinks website: The Four Blinks Version of Flash is a version of Flash developed by Thomas Zimmerman, Ms.Ed., LPCC, that is conceptually and practically different from the “official” version taught by the developer of the Flash Technique, Dr. Phil Manfield. To be trained by Dr. Manfield, see: FlashTechnique.com. To be trained by Ricky Greenwald in his versions of the Flash Technique, see his Trauma Institute training.
Flash technique is a method used in EMDR therapy to help clients process traumatic memories quickly and effectively.
. It involves having clients think about a distressing memory while simultaneously engaging in a distracting task, like imagining a series of rapid flashes of light.
. This technique is particularly useful for clients who may be overwhelmed by the direct confrontation of traumatic memories.
Four Blinks is an advanced version of the Flash Technique
. It incorporates four distinct "blinks" or phases to help clients process trauma more deeply and systematically
. This method is designed to be even more efficient and effective, making it suitable for clients with complex trauma or those who need a more structured approach to processing their experiences.
Ideal Clients
Flash Technique: Suitable for clients who are new to EMDR or those who may be easily overwhelmed by direct exposure to traumatic memories. It's also helpful for clients who need a quick and less intense method to begin processing trauma.
Four Blinks: Ideal for clients with more complex trauma histories or those who have not responded to traditional EMDR techniques. This method is also beneficial for clients in high-stress professions, such as first responders and military personnel, who may need a more structured and intensive approach to trauma processing.
